“She Was $4 Short… But What She Gave Me Back Was Priceless”

The girl ahead was $4 short on a birthday cake. As she put it back, I covered it. She hugged me tight and whispered, “It’s for Mom. She’s sick. This will be her last birthday.” She left quickly.

As I was walking out of the store, I felt something heavy in my pocket. I pulled it out and collapsed. It was my old wallet—the one I had lost weeks ago, with a photo of my late mother inside. But now there was something else: a small folded note.

“Thank you for helping me. Kindness comes back.”

I looked around, but the girl was gone. My hands trembled as memories of my own mother flooded back. Somehow, that small act of generosity had returned something I thought I’d lost forever—not just my wallet, but a piece of her.
