The Girl No One Else Saw

I was in the hospital for 15 days. No one visited. My kids lived far away, and my friends were always busy. The silence was heavy—until one night, a quiet girl began to visit me. She’d sit beside my bed, her voice soft and calm, always saying, “Be strong, you’ll smile again.” Night after night, she came, and somehow, I felt less alone.

When I finally recovered, I told the nurses about her—but they looked confused. “There’s no girl,” they insisted. “It must’ve been the medication.” I tried to believe them.

Six weeks later, I returned to thank the staff. That’s when I saw a photo on the wall. My blood ran cold. It was her—the same girl. The nurse whispered, “She was a patient here… years ago. She never made it.”
